Your AI-made game works. But after a few rounds it feels a bit thin, or you get bored fast. That's normal. Games get fun through small rounds of improvement after the first version.
Here's how to work with an AI to make your game better, one step at a time.
Tip 1: Be specific about what to change
"Make it more fun" doesn't tell the AI what to change. Say what bothers you and how.
| Vague request | Specific request |
|---|---|
| Make it more fun | It gets boring after about 30 seconds. Make enemies speed up over time. |
| It's too hard | Halve the number of enemies in stage 1, then add more with each stage. |
| Make it look better | When an enemy is defeated, add a burst of glowing particles. |
| The controls are awkward | The jump button is too small on phones. Make it twice as big. |
Tip 2: Don't ask for everything at once
Ask for ten changes in one message and the AI may forget some or break something else. Request one or two changes at a time, and play the game after each round.
Tip 3: Keep the versions that work
Sometimes a change makes the game worse. Whenever a version works well, paste the HTML into a text file and save it. Number them, like game_v1.html and game_v2.html, so you can always go back.
Classic ideas that make games more fun
Not sure what to add? Try asking the AI for one of these:
- Rising difficulty: start easy, then ramp up once the player gets the hang of it
- High scores: chasing your own record is a strong reason to play again (see How to add save data)
- Juice: screen shake on hits, popping score numbers, sparks and flashes
- Sound: sound effects make every action feel better (see Adding sound effects and music)
- Title and game-over screens: a clear start and end makes it feel like a real game
- Instant retry: let players start again from the game-over screen with one tap
Use what players tell you
On CraftNova, players can send bug reports and feedback to the creator straight from the game screen. The counts appear next to each game on My page, and you can tap them to see the details.
Feedback options include:
- Controls are hard to use
- The rules aren't clear
- Too difficult, or too easy
- Please add sound
- I want a sequel
If lots of players say the rules aren't clear, add a short how-to-play screen at the start, or expand the "Description and controls" on your post. You can also pass the feedback straight to the AI: "Players said this. Please improve the game based on it."
Updating your game
On My page, press "Edit" on the game and paste in the new HTML. No need to post it again, and the game's URL stays the same.
Summary
- Ask for specific changes, one or two at a time
- Save working versions with numbers so you can go back
- Rising difficulty, high scores, juice, and sound make a big difference
- Feed player feedback to the AI and keep improving the game
